School Safety
At the Ames Community School District, our number one priority is ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and visitors. To support this priority and ensure everyone is prepared in the event of any type of emergency, each of our schools has a safety plan that is unique to the building and all staff are trained in emergency procedures.
To proactively handle the threat of an intruder or active shooter, many principals and teachers have been trained in ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate). If you have questions, please visit our ALICE Frequently Asked Questions. We coordinate our response to emergencies with local public safety agencies, such as the Ames Police and Fire Departments, the Story County Sheriff and Emergency Management Agency, and area hospitals.
As a parent or guardian of an Ames CSD student, we encourage you to review this safety information and become familiar with your student’s school.
