Get to Know Tanise Colvin
The Ames Community School District is presenting features on our amazing Principals and Associate Principals during National Principals Month. It’s time to learn about Tanise Colvin, Principal at Sawyer Elementary. Colvin became a principal because she wanted to create change. She has been with the Ames CSD for three years.
“I wanted to create change that went beyond my classroom,” she said. “I wanted to impact the system.”
Colvin attended Western Illinois University for her Bachelor’s Degree and St. Ambrose University to obtain a Master’s Degree. When she has an hour of free time, you’ll find her going on a walk outside. According to Colvin, lots of exciting things are happening inside the walls of Sawyer.
“I’m excited about all of the great things that are happening at Sawyer and the support we are receiving from parents and the community,” she said. “I’m excited about the work we’re doing around RULER.”
A fun fact about Colvin that her students might not know is that she used to work at Chuck E. Cheese. When she was the age of her students, she enjoyed dancing and pizza days. Colvin’s favorite way to connect with students is to be student-facing.
“I love greeting students every day as they enter the building and eating lunch with them,” she said.
Thank you, Principal Colvin!
